Southern Sophisticated Wedding
Southern Sophisticated Wedding.
What unique elements or DIY details did you include? I kept my grandmother's handkerchief in a beaded purse that my mom carried when she married my dad. I also had a sixpence in my shoe that all of my girl cousins have worn on their wedding days that I've already passed on to another. I loved being able to have a few meaningful pieces that were so subtle they felt like a sweet secret. I was glad that Shawn found a pair of fun fish socks for a little bit of undercover flare.
What was your most memorable moment?
It's so hard to pick one! The few minutes I had with my dad just before walking down the aisle were really special. The nerves that I had subsided and it felt like the whole world stopped spinning. We also absolutely loved our band; dancing non-stop for hours was a blast.
What is one piece of advice that you could give brides-to-be?
Don't sweat the small stuff! It's impossible to have a totally stress-free planning period because there are so many decisions and logistics to sort out. But remember the bigger picture and trust that it all works out and is totally worth it. At the end of it all, you marry the love of your life surrounded by the people that mean the most to you.
These two love birds decided to adventure from their urban home in Hoboken, NJ to exchange vows in rural Pittsboro, NC. That is is special to the bride as that is where here family is from. This wedding truly married the classical lace-inspired southern sophistication and the rustic nature of farm life. I am so thankful for you to be taking the time to take a look!! Please find some words from the bride below!
How you and your spouse met:
Despite having a few mutual friends, Shawn and I met on a dating app! It wasn’t long after we started chatting that we realized we’d definitely been in the same room once or twice over the years, but never managed to meet. We decided to remedy that and met for drinks in NYC’s East Village at Boulton & Watt. At the end of the night, he went in for a hug, I went in for a kiss and the final result was an awkward head-butt.
Personal anecdotes about your gown:
I was (pretty much) one and done! I scheduled appointments at six different boutiques over a weekend where my mom, sister and Shawn's mom were going to be in the city. At my very first appointment, we pulled a few gowns off the rack to start. My dress was the third I tried on and I think we all knew right away we didn't need to look any further. It felt simple, but still special. Being able to add a jacket really sealed the deal. I loved being able to have two different looks with one dress.
What were your color palette and your style vision?
I was hesitant to commit to one color or palette and have that limit our choices, so we took it one decision at a time. Ultimately, "Carolina" blue was our thread throughout our save the date, my shoes, Shawn's tuxedo lining. But I also loved the blush of my sister's bridesmaid dress and all of the green and white flowers. As far as style goes, we wanted to keep it pretty classic. No major bells and whistles or trends. We wanted to feel comfortable and like ourselves and enhance the natural beauty of the venue.
