When deciding on an overall editorial shoot aesthetic, we wanted to create a unique style that encompassed both modern and traditional touches throughout the entire design. I began thinking about tradition and culture and how you can bring those aspects into your wedding design regardless of your location, culture or budget.
The Mediterranean culture is warm, casual, welcoming and chic (come on- I don't know anyone who could argue that). We decided that the venue needed to be unique, airy and welcoming to convey the overall theme of our shoot. The private residence we shot at has a modern yet very "tuscan" and classic look. We couldn't have gotten luckier.
So we had the venue and the theme... we then had to create a design that was unique enough to be able to portray the Mediterranean vibes we were seeking. When designing this shoot, a goal of mine was to create a unique and intriguing design but also keep it "attainable" so that brides seeing these photos weren't intimidated by the design. When I say attainable I mean things that anyone could design and execute. We've all seen the "whiskey tasting bar" or the "ice cream bar" but how often do you see an "olive oil and olive bar"? I tell all brides that I speak with, to get creative and think about the overall "experience", especially if you want to create a guest experience with small details they will remember.
The limoncello bottles at each place setting had "saluti" on one side of the tag and "cheers" on the other - it's those smaller details that I think create a warm and intimate environment at weddings and guests tend to notice those smaller details than what hors d'oeuvres were served. Similar to the "signature cocktail" bar we set up- yes, we all love a good signature cocktail but tying in the actual culture and tying the cocktails back to the overall theme are those small details that create a cohesive event.
