Furman University Wedding

Furman University Wedding.

I first met these two via a FaceTime call/meeting (since they lived in Greenville, SC), when they booked me for their wedding. Even then, I knew the three of us would hit it off perfectly- because I already felt like I was talking to two old friends. I have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know them (and their precious fur babies!) better. Katlyn is one of those people who you simply cannot be around without smiling. I have loved having the opportunity to meet and get to know her and hear about the amazing work she does with the Make A Wish Foundation (she herself is a cancer survivor who was also helped by this foundation as a child). She is truly just a wonderful person to know. She and Nik complement each other perfectly and I know they will have the best life together.

Q: What was the most anticipated or special moment of your wedding day?

A: There were so many special moments that we looked forward to, but I think the most anticipated one was the moment we got to see each other for the first time. We hadn't wanted to do a first look, but due to our ceremony timing and the sunset, we had to reconsider. We chose a beautiful private Rose Garden on Furman's Campus that was out of a fairy tale. As Nic turned around from the white gazebo, I was standing under the archway of roses and it was as if the world stopped. He started crying immediately, as did I, and we quickly walked to each other to wipe the tears and embrace. It was so special to have that intimate time together, as the sunset, to just settle the nerves of the big day, tune out all the commotion, and bask in the beauty and love that brought us to this important day.

Q: Do you have any wedding planning or marriage advice that you'd like to share with other couples planning their day?

A: As a type-A person and a planner for a living, wedding planning could be stressful at times. There are so many options and ways of doing things that it can be very overwhelming. But, I found that when I sat back with Nic and just talked about what was most important to us and what we dreamed our day would look like, everything got easier. Pick a few things that are very special to you and focus on those things, the rest will fall into place. Never turn away help if it is offered. And although DIY sounds fun, sometimes it can be so stressful that just paying the little bit extra to have someone else do it and do it right, is REALLY worth that piece of mind. As far as marriage advice, we are still learning. Take each day one at a time, compromise, always say I love you and don't let those little compliments go unsaid. At the end of the day, I married my best friend and I get to live this crazy adventure of life with him by my side and THAT is all that matters.
