Columbia SC Engagement

Columbia SC Engagement

Columbia SC Engagement.

Lately, I’ve been working with my couples to make their engagement sessions more personal, more real, and more THEM. Today, I wanted to show you the product of that pursuit in action with Amanda and Matt’s Five Points engagement in Columbia, South Carolina.

How did we make the session a bit more real and ‘them’, you ask? Well, I asked Amanda and Matt, like I do for all of my couples, what they love to do together. We threw around a few ideas like hiking for a session or visiting a brewery. Finally we decided on an early morning session with a few portraits for the first half of their portraits and to stop for coffee at Drip Coffee in Five Points for the second half of their session.

While the couple cuddled up and chatted about life, their dreams, and their plans for the wedding, I was able to photograph that real, genuine interaction between them. Yes, I gave them a few prompts and set up the shot to get what I wanted, but I love how these images are so natural and so them. Oh, and I was uber thankful I had an excuse to grab coffee from Drip while shooting too!

After Amanda and Matt finished their lattes, we explored a bit of Columbia SC’s Five Points for a few more portraits. These two are FUN together, and it was such a joy to easily capture laughs because they didn’t stop smiling and laughing at each other the whole morning!

I hope you enjoy my favorite frames from this Five Points engagement session with Amanda and Matt as we stopped for some delicious coffee at Drip Coffee in Columbia, SC!

How did you two meet/start dating?

From the bride: "Tinder for the win! We were both new to the city and where looking for friends online, talked for awhile and decided to go watch a movie. The first date was a bit awkward, or at least I thought so! But we went hiking soon after that and got caught in a rainstorm. We were both smitten after our dance in the waterfall and our moutain-side mud fight."

Tell me the proposal story!

From the bride: "Girl. Movie proposal.

I went to visit Matt in Beligum, he travels a lot for his job as a project engineer for a nuclear welding company, and we spent the first day in Brussels. The next day we did a short day trip to Bruges, one of THE most romantic places in the world. We get there and he is telling me all about the Romeo and Juliet story behind this lake of love there. We walk through the city and I'm in awe just taking tons of photos. The city was really packed that day and I could tell Matt was frustrated but I didn't know why. So at the end of the day he asks to just sit in the garden by the lake to chill before driving. We walk over and he gets sooooo nervous and it hits me. Like I know what's happening. He starts talking about the day and how much he loves traveling with me..gets down on one knee and I just immediately am down on the ground with him huggin him. I don't think I ever smiled that big in my life, I didn't even look at the ring or answer until h asked a second time. I thought my reaction was enough of an answer but engineers like straight talk! We drove to his hotel in Liege and celebrated with some wine. I found out later, he was frustrated all day because the spits he had planned to ask where all so crowed and he couldn't do it when and where he ad planned. But it was perfect. Just me, him, and the lake of love. "
