Colorful Charleston Engagement
Colorful Charleston Engagement.
Brooke + Tim are set to wed next May at Charleston's Confederate Home with a reception at Merchant's Hall. Both venues are beautiful and set with neutral, earthy tones. To balance that, the two opted into a fun and colorful downtown Charleston engagement session, and we’re just smitten with these photos. Naturally, we like to think that Mr. Dublin (the precious pup!) was the cherry on top!
From the couple:
1. How and when did you all meet?
We met almost 6.5 years ago when our sorority and fraternity were paired for Homecoming.
2. Where are you from?
Charlotte, NC.
3. Let's hear about the proposal.
This past Christmas and New Year’s we went on a pretty awesome vacation. We were in Italy for a week, in Barcelona for a few days, went on a 12-day cruise, and then stayed in Barcelona for a few more days. Everyone told me that Tim was going to propose on this vacation, because he would be absolutely silly not to. I kept insisting that it wasn’t going to happen, because we had not even discussed rings, gone to look at rings, or anything of that nature. Long story short, Italy and our cruise went by and still no ring. I won’t deny that I was hoping he was going to propose, but I kept telling myself it will happen when it happens. Well on our LAST day of vacation we were scheduled to climb the Sagrada Familia towers but it was so windy they canceled all tours. This is where Tim had originally planned to propose. While we were touring the Sagrada it was SO windy and cold. I did not bring a jacket, so I asked if I could wear Tim’s. It was odd that he wasn’t offering me his jacket and it took me insisting it before he let me wear it. The reason he was so hesitant is because the ring was in the pocket haha!! However, I had no idea or any reason to be searching for anything haha. As the day went on Tim was asking me to go to all of these different places, and I was just so tired at this point and ready to get back home to our dog, Dublin. We went back to our hotel, in Barcelona, to pack (we were flying out the next morning) and then went up to the rooftop to watch the Three Kings Parade. After the parade was over Tim proposed! I was SO shocked as was everyone else because no one knew he was going to ask me. Not even our parents (but trust me they were totally waiting for this to happen). It was the best cherry on top of our already amazing vacation.
4. Brooke, your engagement ring is such a neat shape! Is there a story behind this? Had you told Tim what you liked ahead of time?
Thank you! I absolutely love my ring! The only thing I had ever mentioned to Tim is that I wanted something different. Something that was so unique and that no one else would have. He went on his own and had the ring designed. He truly did an amazing job and I was and still am SO surprised.
5. Tell us some more about Mr. Dublin, your sweet dog. Will he have an upcoming role in the wedding? What role does he play in your relationship?
Dublin just turned two years old. He is a double doodle, so half golden doodle half labradoodle. He is the glue that holds our relationship together, and we cannot imagine our lives without him. We got him right after we returned from Ireland, and of course I wanted his name to be something unique and somewhere we had traveled to. He will have a part in our wedding. We just aren’t sure what role he will play yet, because he has quite the personality. He may love the attention a little too much haha.
6. Brooke, your gorgeous blue dress! Tell us what styled you were going for. It is so fun and playful!
It took me, what felt like, a million tries to find the perfect outfit for our engagement photos. We knew we wanted something classy but fun for our spring/summer engagement shoot. After looking at some pictures of the areas we wanted to take pictures I just felt like the color blue, along with a little bit of floral, would really stand out. I was a little nervous that we both were wearing blue, but I am so happy with the outfits we picked.
7. What style are you envisioning for your upcoming wedding?
We haven’t started the design phase with the planners yet, but I love the idea of using of geometric shapes. I also want to have a mixture of gold and rose gold. My Pinterest in flowing with lots of ideas, so I am very excited to start working with our wedding planners to make our vision come to life.
8. Can't tell from the images, but was it hot the day of your engagement session? How do you suggest brides combat the warm Charleston weather?
Our engagement session was VERY hot and my poor fiancé (Tim) sweats even when it is freezing outside. We made sure to bring lots of water. We also brought a cool towel and fans to try to stay as cool as possible.
