Classic Chapel Hill UNC Wedding
How did you meet? We were set up in our junior year of college for Quinn's sorority formal by a few of her sorority sisters. How did you know he/she was the "one"? We hit it off pretty instantly. Quinn introduced Jordan to her parents two weeks after meeting him and sent him a link to her dream engagement ring after only four months. (Though we ended up dating for four years, three of which were long distance due to law school!) I think both of us quickly saw qualities in the other that we really admired. Jordan is patient, measured, loyal, and always chooses to see the best in others. Quinn is determined, creative, and passionate. In her wedding day card to Jordan, she wrote " You have cured my previously insatiable need to wander and travel and take on drastic changes. As I roamed, I was looking for a home. I found it in you. Now I know that I will never more walk alone. Through life's tragedies and triumphs, we will always have each other."

Tell us about the proposal? In late December 2017, Jordan took Quinn on the best date of her life! First they went to 300 East, where they split a bottle of wine. While feeling romantic, Quinn pulled out her favorite poem that has always reminded her of Jordan: Typewriter Series #1 by Tyler Knott Gregson. Then Jordan surprised her with tickets to the Nutcracker (one of her favorite shows and holiday traditions) at the Blumenthal Performing Arts Center. Afterwards, he told Quinn he wanted to take her to the Christmas Village at Romare Bearden park. They walked over to the park but it was empty...Jordan led Quinn to the center of the park, where the Charlotte skyline lit up the background and dropped to one knee! He then recited Typewriter Series #1 (the same poem they'd read earlier that evening) from heart; little did Quinn know, he had memorized it! After the proposal, Jordan and Quinn walked over to a local bar. When they turned the corner both of their families were waiting to congratulate them (to Quinn's surprise!)! It was a magical, wonderful evening.
What was your wedding day inspiration? We wanted the wedding to be elegant, timeless, and classic. We love traveling through the South, and especially the lowcountry, and wanted to bring in the natural color of green- the kind of green that you see in trees and flowers. We also wanted to incorporate the colors from the Old Well Ballroom at the Carolina Inn. So our colors were cream, taupe and gold, with hints of dark green (from the bridesmaids' bouquets and other greenery) and black and white (from the ballroom tiles). We also incorporated a lot of special elements that reflected our personalities. For example, one of the appetizers was pimento cheese dip in honor of our southern roots, and our welcome bags also had North Carolina peanuts and Chapel Hill toffee. We both went to UNC and my mom surprised us by having Rameses show up and dance the night away with us! Our cake was a perfect blend of our personalities- we had classic vanilla cake with strawberry buttercream icing (Jordan's pick) and a more bold chocolate cake with espresso cream icing (Quinn's pick). And our favorite element was how we incorporated Quinn's love for flowers and nature with Jordan's passion for golf (and particularly his love for the Master's). Our table names were each a hole from the Augusta course (which are all flowers) with a print of the flower actually from the Augusta National gift shop in beautiful gold frames. We actually have all of the framed table names hanging in our living room now!
Anything else you would like to share? Some of the most special moments from the wedding day happened during our ceremony. Our officiant, Leslie Dibble, who we did premarital counseling with, beautifully summed up the scripture readings in a homily that I will never forget. My dad read aloud the Prayer of St. Francis...I had actually picked the prayer to be read before I even realized my parents' had had the same prayer incorporated into their own wedding! The Servant Song was one that really spoke to Jordan and me and our goals for our marriage. Singing it during the ceremony brought tears to both of our eyes. We especially love the lines: "I will weep when you are weeping/ When you laugh, I'll laugh with you/ I will share your joy and sorrow/ Till we've seen this journey through/ Will you let me be your servant/ Let me be as Christ to you/ Pray that I might have the grace/ To let you be my servant too." Lastly, the most wonderful moment was having my 94 year old grandfather, who is a retired Episcopal priest, pronounce us husband and wife. Ever since I was a little girl I have hoped he would be able to be a part of my wedding day, and it was truly a dream come true to have him pronounce us.
